70 degree weather, lime green colored trees and an eye full of sun only means one thing...its spring. The season of spring is the best time of year because it warm enough outside that doing activities like bike riding, taking walks and touring cities all acceptable now. However, what really makes the season of spring my favorite is that we have spring break! A whole week fo nonstop sleepovers at friends house, enjoying the great weather outdoors and most importantly...NO SCHOOL. Although many people on these long breaks get bored, there is an abundance of things to do to ensure your break is as exciting, fun and relaxing as you want it to be.

NYC:

Living very close to New York City, I always find time to visit, dine and site see. The city is a perfect place for spring breakers because it has so many things to offer. First, they have extraordinary sights and areas to take awesome pictures with you ad your friends. One place in particular is the Bushwick walls in Brooklyn, NY. These walls are nothing but average, due to their immense amount of hard work and talent put in. They are nothing short of beautiful masterpieces filled with colors, musicians, animals and more.

These are two prime examples of artistry on these walls. Next, other things you can do in the city when it the temperature raises, is go into exhibits or museums. Some people might associate museums with boredom but many are actually very interesting. Some very p

  • 9/11 memorial museum:  This museum offers many different exhibits such as the interactive part which is a very hands on experience.

  • Museum of the City New York: This museum is all about the good, the great and the awesome of New York City. It's a museum founded by Henry Collins Brown in 1923 to preserve the people and their history throughout the years. It explores the fashion, the food and the architecture of different time periods of New York as well. Its a wonderful place for people out of town who don't really know the city, and of course people who live in New York so they can learn about their homes history.

New York also offers many different parks to spend time outside. They have Central Park, people use for photo taking, strolling in the park and taking in the beautiful nature. Furthermore New York is known for their endless food chains and restaurants. Each restaurant is unique so you can order just what you like, from Chinese, to BQQ, to Vietnamese to Mexican and all in between. Just walking up and down the city's streets is an adventure itself.

CHEAP AND EASY:

Sometimes over Spring Break a lot of people don't feel like going out and spending loads of money. However, staying home with friends does not mean you cant have a great time off:

  • MOVIE MARATHON: Movie Marathons are always the best! Here you take a series or maybe an actor or actress and you watch the series or their movies back to back. Honestly there great, because you stay entertained and sometimes the weather isn't the best over break so this is a great way to keep happy when the weathers not. For example, last year when I was home sick, my mom and I had a Molly Ringwald movie marathon. We watched Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink all in one day. It cheered me up so much and was honestly a blast.

  • BAKE: What could be better than your best friends and a bowl of brownie batter? NOTHING. Baking is such an easy and accessible thing to do: open the batter, put the water and eggs in, bake it for 45 minutes and voila, yummy cupcakes. Baking can even become competitive as well with you and your friends. For Example, one time on a cold snowy Saturday my friends and I went to a local grocery store and bought a bunch of baking items. We got batter, icing, sprinkles, candy and icing pumps. When we got home we broke ourselves into teams of 2 and the 4 of us went head to head in a bake off. My friend and I were on a team and did a Winter theme. One cupcake we made had green icing and had red, yellow, orange and blue small candy's like a Christmas tree. It was so much fun and passed the time quickly.

Lend a Hand:

Free time? Give back to your community! With all of this relaxation time let's not look at what we can do for us, but how we can help others. Sometimes we find ourselves drowning in boredom by going to the mall a second time or seeing a move we've already seen. So instead of having a dry spring break let's help other.

  • 11th Hour Rescue: The 11th Hour rescue is a dog and cat rescue, that brings in lost or in dangered pups. They have shelters all across the United Sates. They take great care of their dogs but constantly have so many new ones coming and are in need of volunteers. What could be better than snugging and holding little puppies for a few hours?

This is my dog, his name is Pepper and he is from 11th Hour Rescue.

  • Volunteer at a Local Homeless Shelter or Food Pantry:  Besides working with pups, you can also work with people as well.  Day after day, each and every one of us complain about being hungry during the school day, at work or even in the car. However, we have that luxury of being able to either go out and grab a bite at a local diner or going home for a home baked meal. The sad thing is that many people are not able to do this. By volunteering at places like a food pantry or a homeless shelter you get to help the people who are less fortunate than you. You get to feed someone the one and only meal they might be eating that whole week. It gives you a whole new perspective of their life and your life as well.                        Image result for helping out the homeless

  1. Great job on this one Marissa!! I love that you always write about the time of year. It's super helpful and relatable! I love that you include things to do over break because often people don't know what to do with their freetime.
